CARRY PASSPORTS WITH YOU

Article 38 of the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China stipulates:

Foreigners having reached the age of 16 who stay or reside in China shall carry with them their passports or other international travel documents, or foreigners' stay or residence permits, and accept the inspection of public security organs.

RE-APPLY FOR PASSPORTS IF LOST

The process for reissuing a passport is as follows:

The person who loses the passport shall report in person the loss to the local police station and apply for a passport loss certificate from the exit/entry administration of public security organ (The passport loss certificate is valid for one month);

Apply for a new passport from the embassy or consulate of his own country in China;

After receiving the new passport, update the accommodation registration information at the local police station;

Within 10 days, bring the new passport and passport loss certificate to the exit/entry administration of publicsecurity organ in the place of his or her stay or residence to reapply for a visa or residence permit.

* A foreigner within China who fails to hold a valid passport or other international travel documents due to loss, damage, destruction. theft or invalidity of his/her documents and cannot apply for re-issuance of them at his/her respective embassy or consulate in China shall submit proof of passport loss, or a note from his/her respective embassy or consulate in China, or present damaged or invalid documents and temporary ID documents used in place of passport; and apply to the entry and exit management department of the public security organ for the Foreigners Exit-Entry Permit to exit China.

Article 23 of the Regulation of the People's Republic of China on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners stipulates:

A foreigner who does not hold a valid passport or other international travel documents due to loss, damage, destruction, theft, robbery or other reasons and cannot get the said passport or documents reissued by the relevant institution of his own country stationed in China may apply for exit formalities to the exit/entry administration of public security organ of the local people's government at or above the county level in the place of his or her stay or residence.

CHANGE PASSPORTS UPON EXPIRATION

Before your passport expires, you shall consult with the embassy or consulate of your home country in advance about the time required to apply for extension or a change of your passport, to ensure that you will complete the formalities for passport extension or obtain a new passport before your visa or residence permit expires.

Procedures of changing a passport:

Within 24 hours after receiving a new passport bring the new and old passports and reapply for accommodation registration at the local police station;

Within 10 days after obtaining a passport handle matters relating to change of visa or residence permit at the exit/entry administration of public security organ in the place of residence;

Within 24 hours after obtaining a new Visa or residence permit, update the accommodation registration at the local police station.
