Time Zones<\/span> is a five-level, four-skills series that combines a communicative <\/span><\/span>approach to learning English with up-to-date National Geographic content. <\/span>It is designed to be engaging for all young students, from pre-teens to <\/span>young adults.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Time Zones<\/em>, Third Edition uses amazing photography, updated videos, and inspiring stories of global citizens to encourage teenage learners to explore the world in English. Through teacher-tested language lessons, carefully scaffolded practice activities, and teaching resources that keep classrooms engaged,\u00a0Time Zones<\/em>, Third Edition delivers the skills and language that learners need for wherever they\u2019re going next.<\/p>\n

HOW IS THE BOOK ORGANIZED?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Time Zones<\/span> follows a familiar grammatical syllabus, with simple structures <\/span>introduced in the lower levels, followed by increasingly complex structures <\/span>in later levels. However,<\/span> Time Zones<\/span> also follows a rich, thematic content <\/span>syllabus. Real-world content is used as a springboard for introducing the <\/span>language that students need to become effective communicators in <\/span>English.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As with the grammatical syllabus,<\/span> Time Zones<\/span> teaches the highest-<\/span>frequency vocabulary in the earlier stages of the course, with relatively <\/span>lower-frequency vocabulary appearing only in the higher levels of the <\/span>series. Along the way, more specialized vocabulary is occasionally <\/span>introduced so that students can develop a meaningful understanding <\/span>of it, as well as be able to talk about the real world topics and issues <\/span>introduced in<\/span> Time Zones<\/span>. Key vocabulary is recycled systematically <\/span>throughout the series.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The vocabulary and grammar is well integrated throughout the series. For <\/span>example, students might learn the grammatical structure<\/span> can<\/span> to talk about <\/span>abilities in a unit on animals\u2014learning to talk about what animals can and <\/span>can\u2019t do\u2014before going on to personalize the language and talk about <\/span>themselves and their own abilities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ideally, the units of<\/span> Time Zones<\/span> will be taught in order and no units will be <\/span>skipped. However, if your students have some background in English, you <\/span>may wish to skip the<\/span> Starter Level<\/span>, which consolidates some of the core <\/span>English that young students might have already encountered if they have <\/span>been exposed to English learning before.<\/span>
